NHS in Wales

Are you looking to develop either your Health Board teams, clusters or any of the four contractor groups? If yes, then PCC can help.

We know that successful organisations invest in their people and PCC supports people and teams to develop new skills that can help equip your organisation with the tools and approaches that support ongoing service improvement and organisational development.

PCC have been working with the NHS in Wales for nearly a decade. This has included support for individual practices, clusters, health boards, trusts and the Welsh Government.

  • Leadership development specific for clusters/collaborative leads
  • Facilitation / support to help clusters consider if they wish to develop CICs
  • Coaching for existing and emerging leaders

Over recent years, there have been significant policy developments to support the evolution of patient care in Wales. A Healthier Wales, published in June 2018, sets out a long-term vision for transforming health and social care to better meet the needs of the population.

A central ambition of the plan is to shift the focus of care away from hospital settings and into communities, bringing services closer to where people live and promoting a more preventative, person-centred approach.

Subsequent updates to A Healthier Wales have reinforced this direction, highlighting the expectation that integrated community-based services will be expanded and scaled up in line with population health and wellbeing needs.

PCC can work with health boards, primary care clusters and individual practices through bespoke workshops or hands on support, contact enquiries@pcc-cic.org.uk.

Implementing the GMS Directed Collaborative Service

With the development of the GMS Directed Collaborative Service it is likely that clusters will wish to consider the benefits and options of collaborative working, initially across general practices. It is envisioned that this will be the foundation for a shift of services to the community, involving a wider range of professionals and contractors in the future. The service offers an opportunity to embed a culture of collaborative working that will support individual practices and improve access to care for patients. Crucially developing ways of working that will support more professions to be involved over time and for services to be provided nearer to peoples’ homes.

Cluster leadership and collaborative working

Collaboration is complex – culture, people, power and politics can be high hurdles. Clearing or finding a route around the hurdle may require new ways of working.
PCC’s leadership development support explores how leaders can stay energised and be energising while exploring new ways of working.

Take time to develop your team

A vital step in working together with others is to ensure that firstly practice teams work effectively together.

Business continuity plans

When things go wrong, many areas in a practice and the cluster are affected – the business, patients and staff. By developing a robust and practical business continuity plan (BCP), practices can ensure that their workforce is in the best place to seamlessly deal with and move on from events that would otherwise prove unsettling.

Making the most of your space – practice optimisation review

We hear regularly about the impact of space constraints within the estates that practices and clusters occupy, which can include the constant juggling of rotas, the effect on recruitment and the ability to deliver training. By undertaking a space optimisation review, PCC can help you to make sure that space is being used most effectively.

GP practice partner retirement – implications on premises

As GP contractors approach retirement several critical factors need to be considered, particularly concerning their premises, including the implications this may have for the ownership or lease of their practice premises.
