Understanding complexity to deliver better outcomes

Healthcare improvement often focuses on structures, processes and targets, yet outcomes emerge from the interactions between people, teams and organisations. As a result, well-intentioned changes can create unintended consequences, fail to achieve their aims or simply shift problems elsewhere.

Processes and protocols provide a framework for delivery, but they are not where change happens. Change happens through the decisions, relationships, behaviours and interactions that occur every day across healthcare systems. Understanding these interactions is essential if we are to deliver sustainable improvement within increasingly complex healthcare environments.

This half-day workshop provides an understanding of why systems thinking matters in healthcare and introduces practical approaches that help participants understand complexity, identify opportunities for improvement and design more effective and sustainable change

Participants will leave with:

• A practical understanding of systems thinking in healthcare.
• Tools to analyse complex challenges more effectively.
• Greater confidence in designing and leading change within complex environments.

This workshop is part of a four session programme, but each can be attended as a standalone workshop. A discount is applied for delegates booking on all four workshops.

This three-hour workshop is aimed at ICB commissioners and provider commissioning hubs.
