Strategic commissioning: Outcomes, Key Steps and Results for healthcare improvement and transformation
Thursday 14 January 2027 (09.30-12.30)
Online training session
Creating clarity, alignment and accountability
Many improvement programmes are successful at delivering activities and outputs but struggle to demonstrate whether those outputs have been adopted, changed behaviour or delivered the intended outcomes. As a result, organisations can find themselves measuring what is easy rather than what truly matters.
This workshop introduces outcomes, key steps and results (OKRs), an adaptation of the traditional objectives and key results framework developed through practical work with NHS teams, commissioners and provider collaboratives. The framework helps teams create greater clarity, make the logic of change visible, align stakeholders around shared priorities and measure whether improvement is making a difference.
By connecting outcomes, key steps and measurable results, participants learn how to develop stronger plans, improve accountability and create a more adaptive approach to delivering change within complex healthcare systems. The framework supports teams to move beyond measuring activity alone and develop a clearer understanding of whether change is being adopted and delivering the intended impact.
Participants will leave with:
- A clear understanding of both traditional OKRs and the NHS-adapted framework.
- Practical approaches to aligning teams around shared priorities and outcomes.
- Greater confidence in developing outcome-focused improvement and transformation plans.
- An understanding of how to measure whether change is being adopted and delivering the intended impact.
- A framework for reviewing progress, testing assumptions and adapting plans within complex healthcare environments.
- An understanding of how OKRs can support collaboration, accountability and delivery across healthcare systems
This workshop is part of a four session programme, but each can be attended as a standalone workshop. A discount is applied for delegates booking on all four workshops.
This three-hour workshop is aimed at ICB commissioners and provider commissioning hubs.
