Primary care eye care contracts – applications

Thursday 3 December 2026 (09.30-12.30)
Online training session

NHS eyecare is a vital primary care service, and commissioners play an essential role in ensuring that effective contractual arrangements are in place to deliver accessible, high-quality care for patients. During the lifetime of a contract, there may be occasions where commissioners need to take formal contractual action.

Prospective contractors can apply to hold a general ophthalmic services (GOS) contract to provide NHS services.

This three-hour virtual training session provides a detailed overview of the application process, including the key considerations for assessing each application, decision-making approaches, and how to manage unsuccessful applications.

The agenda covers:

  • Introduction to GOS contracts
  • GOS contract application process
  • Practice visits
  • Decision making.

The session will be delivered by one of our eyecare experts.

Delegates will benefit most through active participation, including engaging in discussions, asking questions, taking part in group activities, and using interactive tools. There will also be opportunities to share experiences, discuss current challenges, and explore practical solutions with both the facilitator and fellow participants.

This session is for commissioners and those working on their behalf.

By the end of the course, the delegates will be able to confidently deal with managing contract applications.

“Very informative and pitched just at my level of understanding.”

“I have managed to get bigger picture of why I am doing my task at work. This PCC training allows me to understand why I am handling the case. What is the benefit for the stakeholders.”
