Primary care eye care contracts – an introduction

NHS eye care is an important primary care service. Commissioners must make the contractual arrangements so services can be made available to patients and appropriately manage them.

This three-hour virtual training session will provide the detail on the types of contracts there are in eye care, what services are available and the financial arrangements for provision of those services.

The session will enable commissioners and those working on their behalf to understand the contractual arrangements that are required for the provision of NHS eye care services.

The agenda covers:

• Commissioning of NHS eye care services
• The General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) contract and who can hold the contract
• The services provided including optical appliances
• Financial arrangements.

The training session will be led by one of our eye care experts. Delegates will be able to participate in group exercises, via interactive tools, take the opportunities to discuss current issues and seek solutions with our expert and each other.

This session is for commissioners and those working on their behalf with limited or no experience of eye care commissioning and is also a useful refresher for those with more experience.

Following attendance on the course, delegates will be able to confidently understand the basis of eye care contracting.
