Primary care dental contracts – variations – Session two
Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 November 2026 (09.30-12.00)
Online training session
NHS dentistry is a vital primary care service, and commissioners play an essential role in ensuring that effective contractual arrangements are in place to deliver accessible, high-quality care for patients. Once contracts are in place, commissioners must also handle variation requests.
This virtual training course, delivered across two sessions, provides a comprehensive overview of the types of contract variations commissioners manage. These include changes to services, ownership, and retirements. The course will also explore the potential impact of the new Provider Selection Regime on decision-making processes related to contract variations.
The agenda includes:
- Introduction to contracts
- Variations to services
- Unilateral rebasing
- Variations to ownership
- Managing retirements
Please note: This workshop does not cover incorporations or subcontracting. If you are interested in these topics, please refer to our separate session on contract changes.
The session will be delivered by one of our dental experts. Delegates will benefit most through active participation, including engaging in discussions, asking questions, taking part in group activities, and using interactive tools. There will also be opportunities to share experiences, discuss current challenges, and explore practical solutions with both the facilitator and fellow participants.
This session is for commissioners and those working on their behalf.
By the end of the course, delegates will feel confident in managing and implementing contract variations.
