Navigating GP premises capital grants: framework, funding, and abatements – Session two

Tuesday 19 May and Thursday 21 May 2026 (13.30-16.00)

GP premises are essential to the delivery of NHS primary care medical services. The Premises Costs Directions provide the arrangements for commissioners to fund premises improvement grants for contractors to extend or improve their premises.

This virtual training course, delivered over two sessions, will explore funding opportunities for premises developments and the regulatory framework which sets out the requirements and process for awarding financial support for premises, including the 2024 National Health Service (General Medical Services Premises Costs) Directions.

The course will enable commissioners and those working on their behalf to understand the types of developments that can be funded and the process for managing applications for improvement grants.

The agenda covers:

• What the directions say – improvement grants and developments
• Funding sources – including the Utilisation and Modernisation Fund, S106 and community infrastructure levy (CIL)
• The improvement grant process
• Abatements.

This course will be led by one of our primary care premises experts and delegates will be encouraged to participate through questions, exercises, and interactive tools, with opportunities to discuss current issues and seek solutions with our expert and each other.

The training course is for commissioners and those working on their behalf.
