Workforce

It is vital for any organisation to ensure that they have the right people in the right place at the right time, and that is no different for primary care. More than that though, looking after your workforce will support the practice as it tackles the ever-present pressures.

PCC has experienced team members, including practice managers, who can add extra capacity to support working through the skill mix needed across your practices. We can also support practices to implement new ways of working, train and develop staff, and bring teams together so they are working effectively together.

PCC supporting general practice – business continuity plans (19 March 2024)
When things go wrong, many areas in a practice or primary care network (PCN) are affected – the business, patients and staff. By developing a robust and practical business continuity plan (BCP), practices and PCNs can ensure that their workforce is in the best place to seamlessly deal with and move on from events that would otherwise prove unsettling. Using established templates we can help you put together and then stress test your BCP so that you and your teams are confident about what to do if the worst happens.

Feedback from a commissioner following a recent programme said that “The PCNs found the sessions extremely useful and reported that they found the trainer really well informed, offered good advice and was extremely engaging. They are all now looking at business continuity in a new light. An added positive is that some of the PCNs are working together to stress test scenarios.”

PCC supporting general practice – workforce (20 February 2024)
We are aware that there is active consideration of developing different nursing models that better utilise opportunities for working at scale across practices and primary care networks. Not only does this support practices as the number of nurses approaching retirement age continues to grow, but it also supports recruitment and retention through for example, the development of improved induction programmes and nursing preceptorship. To find out how our team can support you and your nursing teams to review the way they operate and develop a plan for the future, contact enquiries@pcc-cic.org.uk or see www.pcc-cic.org.uk/practice-support for details on the range of support we provide.

PCC supporting general practice – workforce (23 January 2024)
As we continue to highlight the ways that PCC is supporting general practice, today we are focussing on workforce. We are aware that improving patient experience is a priority for practices and primary care networks this year, with there being incentives attached in the quality and outcomes framework and investment and impact fund, but what happens when things don’t go as planned? Patient complaints, when handled badly, have a significant cost in terms of time, money to the staff dealing with them. It can also lead to a potential breakdown of relationships between the patient and individuals in the practice when the matter could have easily been remedied. If you want to improve the chances of your team dealing with complaints in a positive way, we are running workshops to support them do just that. The next sessions take place on the 16 and 18 April.
