Integrated urgent care: direct booking roadshow

22 August 2019

Direct booking of some urgent GP appointments from NHS 111 will start to become available from October. NHS England and NHS Improvement is working with practices across the country to make sure they are ready for the change, including overcoming the technical issues some practices may face.

To help support implementation of direct booking from NHS 111 to in-hours GP practices, NHS England and NHS Improvement is providing a series of free roadshow events for GPs, practice managers and practice staff.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about the programme including gaining a better understanding of the booking process, the technical requirements for taking part and the potential financial implications.

Register to attend the event to get essential information on the practical steps you can take to implement direct booking in your practice. As you will already know this is a requirement following recent changes to the GP contract, as well as an aspiration of the NHS Long Term Plan.

These events, running in six locations and free to attend, will showcase work done by early implementers, who will share their experiences highlighting benefits such as:

  • Reduction in the demand in same-day urgent appointments in GP practices
  • Improvement in patient perception of appointment availability
  • Standardised approach for patients requiring same-day care.

The day will also cover:

  • How direct booking can help to manage patient activity
  • How practices can work in liaison with NHS 111 to ensure patients get to the right place first time
  • How we ensure patients who are booked are appropriate to primary care.

You can also ask questions of NHS England and NHS Improvement's integrated urgent care and primary care teams and clinical leads who will be there to answer your queries.

Places at the events will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Up to two staff may attend from each practice, but we reserve the right to cancel or amend bookings to meet demand as fairly as possible.

Book the event nearest to you from the list below.
