The Neighbourhood Health Centre (NHC) guidance outlines the ambitions for NHCs to improve access, integration, and the range of services locally available.
The four archetypes are described in the guidance:
- Hub and spoke – upgrading, repurposing or extending the existing estate
- Repurposing community or civic premises
- Cohort specific hubs – complementing existing hubs or co-located in NHCs
- Purpose built
Integrated care boards (ICBs) should draw on existing estate strategies, align proposals with clinical strategies, consider population and housing growth when developing initial plans which need to be with regions in May. Regions will then work with ICBs to develop a coherent pipeline within the budget available.
ICBs need to set out:
- Neighbourhood geography
- Proposed NHC estate including upgrades and new build schemes
- How proposals align to criteria (outlined in the guidance)
- Disposals enabled through investment and improved utilisation
PCC can support ICBs:
- Assess available estate
- Premises utilisation reviews
- Update estate strategies
- Develop business cases
